Danika Bark: "Being 100% present had become a rarity, and I've been inspired to bring it back!"
Preface: The average American tosses out 81 pounds of clothing each year; We now buy five times more clothes than we did in the 1980's; and a fast fashion piece of clothing lasts just five weeks in a woman's wardrobe before it's tossed out. Currently, our mainstream fashion industry, with a tunnel-vision for the bottom line, encourages ever-insatiable materialism at the cost of our social welfare, environmental well-being, and public health.
But it doesn't have to be this way. In honor of Second-Hand September, KW highlights change-makers glamorizing slow, re-loved, and vintage fashion as statements of appreciation for the heartfelt stories told by cherished clothes.

What are you working on in terms of holistic health this month?
"I'm going to try and really reduce my consumption of single-use plastics this September! Of course, I do all the major things like using a reusable cup, bags, straw and utensils. But when I grocery-shop, I still have my go-to favorite foods that are wrapped in plastic. I just feel like it's time to take this a step further, getting rid of all the single-use plastics in my routine!"
Where do you shop for vintage or re-loved fashion?
"My go-to online platforms for finding those quality resale and vintage pieces are therealreal.com and vestiaireco.com. I'm also super excited to get to sport all of my denim pants again without melting -- Re/done denim is great for that! "
What inspires you most right now?
"I'm obsessed with French-inspired styles right now! It focuses on having few timeless, high-quality, and elegant pieces, styled with effortless hair and minimal makeup... swoon!
Other than that, I recently just went camping for a week with no phone, no connections, and no showers. It felt amazing to unplug for 7 days! I've been trying to find time in my everyday life to go offline and appreciate where I am and who I am with.
Being 100% present had become a rarity, and I've been inspired to bring it back!"
