Finding sustainable vegan handbags not made from plastic materials is certainly a challenge.

While there certainly has been much progress made when it comes to sourcing eco-friendly animal-free leather alternatives, we do still have a ways to go.

Thankfully, these brands are helping pave the way with their consciously made cruelty-free handbags free of animal leather and toxic plastics. While some materials featured here do have a percentage of synthetics added (such as PiΓ±atex and apple leather), there is a lot of progress β€” and I hope that this pathway to progress continues!

For totally synthetic-free options, I suggest looking for cork handbags or organic cotton handbags. However, these materials do not have the same look and feel as leather.

Note: This guide includes partners and affiliates. As always, all brands meet strict criteria for sustainability and are brands we love β€” and that we think you'll love too!

Before we get into the new brands, remember to browse secondhand first! Some great spots for finding quality (and even luxury) handbags at great prices are Vestiaire Collective, Tradesy, and The RealReal

Alright, now let's get to this sustainable vegan bags guide!
